Clare Outdoor Club Try a Hike – Sunday 17th October, 2021
Clare Outdoor Club is delighted to welcome you to Try a Hike Open Day. We hope you have an enjoyable day as you get to sample what the club does on a day out in the hills. In order to make the day as pleasant as possible, and as we will be outdoors in Ireland’s changeable weather, it is important that you bring all the essentials listed below in the Walkers Checklist in order to stay warm and safe.
The day will involve carpooling from Ennis to the start point in the Galtee Mountains. Driving arrangements will be made on the morning. Those willing to drive can make this known in the car park. Those electing to travel as passengers are advised to pay the driver €10 to cover petrol expenses in line with club policy. Parking is limited at the start point so we will endeavour to bring as few cars as possible. There will be a brief stop at the petrol station on Bahercrow Roundabout – Supermacs & Papa John’s Tipperary Town Plaza on route to buy last minute supplies / visit toilet.
The planned walking route is the Circuit of Lough Muskry (OSI Map Sheet 74) in the Galtees. It is approx. 14km and the total ascent is 810meters. However, this walk may be changed if weather conditions are not favourable. Hopefully we will achieve a summit or two and take in some panoramic views. (Click on the walk on our website calendar for full description of walk)
Expect to be outdoors for 5 or 6 hours. We will be stopping for lunch during the hike so bring extra layers. We will be changing into dry clothes at the finish point after our hike. (There is no changing area)
