Membership of the club is open to anyone over 18 years and the annual
subscription currently stands at €50
Members meet socially every Thursday night throughout the year in Paddy Quins
pub in Ennis (on Market Street) from about 10 p.m. onwards.
The committee meets formally on the first Thursday night of every month.
The membership year stretches from the AGM usually held on the last or second
last Thursday in September, to October of the following year. The extra month
is to allow a breathing space during which re-registration with the MCI can
take place. Once a member has fully completed a
membership form
(and this is a requirement every year) and paid their annual
subscription, the Treasurer sends off the details and fee to the MCI, which
then registers the new member for the current year up to October 31st. Once the
member is registered and insured, he or she is then entitled to participate in
all scheduled club activities.
The club calendar is compiled and circulated to all
members either via e-mail or through the post three times a year, in September
with the Oct-Dec programme, in December with the Jan-Mar programme and in March
with the April to June calendar of events. While rockclimbing is at its height
during the summer months (July to Sept), organised by the designated member in
charge of equipment, members are generally left to their own devices and are
free to organise mountaineering expeditions with fellow-members at home or
abroad. Therefore, as no mountain walking is organised by the committee during
the months of July, August or September, no diary is issued for this quarter.
